🛒 Barcode Blunder

You are holding it wrong!

Step into the fast-paced world of retail chaos in this 3D puzzle game where every scan counts and orientation is everything. As a cashier facing an endless stream of grocery items, you must quickly rotate each product to find the correct barcode position before time runs out.

🎮 How to Play

Each grocery item arrives with a randomly rotated orientation. Your job is simple: rotate the item until the barcode faces down, then scan! But don't take too long because customers are waiting and the clock is ticking.

Build combo streaks by scanning items quickly and accurately. Miss too many scans or let the timer run out and it's game over. Visual dividers separate each customer's items so you'll know exactly when one customer ends and the next begins.

🕹️ Controls

Desktop/Keyboard (Best Way to Play):

  • Arrow Keys or WASD: Rotate items in all directions

  • Enter: Scan the item when barcode is positioned correctly

  • Enter: Start game or restart after game over

Mobile/Touch (Experimental):

  • Swipe in any direction to rotate items

    • Left or right swipes: Rotate horizontally

    • Up or down swipes: Rotate vertically

  • Tap to scan when the barcode is facing down

  • Tap to start game or restart after game over

Development Workflow

Most of the work for Barcode Blunder was done on an iPad. 3D modeling was handled using Nomad, which made it easy to shape and adjust models with the Apple Pencil. For parts that needed Blender, AstroPad was used to mirror the desktop setup and control it directly from the iPad. For development I switched between Xogot on iPad and Godot on my Macbook.

All assets were made from scratch, except for the grocery item textures and Audio. The textures were generated with the help of OpenAI's Image Generator and then tweaked to match the style of the game as far as time permitted.
